Looking up…

The patterns, in the open.

  • Your word on its own, and two words joined both ways (brewcoffee, coffeebrew).
  • Blends: two words sharing letters where they meet, or the first one clipped by a vowel.
  • A short word before or after: get, try, use, join; hq, lab, kit, hub, works, studio.
  • Each idea shows the pattern that made it, so you can take the idea and change it yourself.

Only names you can register.

Every idea goes through DNS first, which removes names that are already in use. The best of the rest are checked with the registry itself, the same way as the domain availability checker, so the list shows names with no registration record right now. Register the one you like soon: free names are taken every day.

Choosing between ideas.

  • Say it out loud to someone: if they can type it after hearing it once, it passes the radio test.
  • Shorter wins, but not at the cost of being clear. Avoid hyphens and digits.
  • Search the name with your field in mind, and check trademarks where you trade before you build on it.

Questions people ask.

How does the domain name generator work?

It builds ideas from your words with simple patterns (a prefix such as get or try, a suffix such as hq or lab, or two words joined or blended), drops every idea that is already taken in DNS, and asks the registry about the best 24 that are left.

Are the names really available?

Each name shown was checked with its registry seconds before: no record means you can register it, unless the registry holds it back or prices it as premium, which the registrar's checkout shows.

Which extensions can I generate names for?

.com, .io, .ai, .co, .app, .dev, .net and .si. Switch extension under the results to run the same words again.

What makes a good domain name?

Short, easy to say and spell after hearing it once, with no hyphens or numbers, and not too close to an existing brand. A name that passes the radio test is easier to share.

Are my words stored?

No. They are used to build the ideas and check them, and are not kept.
