Registrar or registry?
The registry runs an extension, such as Verisign for .com or ARNES for .si. A registrar is the company you buy and renew the domain through. Registrars of generic extensions are accredited by ICANN and carry an IANA number, which this page shows.
Reporting abuse.
Registrars of generic extensions must publish an abuse contact. Phishing, malware or spam from a domain goes there, with the evidence: the full address of the page, the time you saw it, and copies of the messages. For problems with the site itself, the hosting company is often faster.
Moving a domain to another registrar.
- The owner removes the transfer lock at the current registrar and asks for the authorization code (also called EPP or auth code).
- The new registrar takes the code and usually charges one year of renewal, which is added to the current expiry date.
- For generic extensions, ICANN's transfer policy lets a registrar refuse a transfer within 60 days of the registration or of a previous transfer.
