Ping 2a02:ec80:600::.
Time how fast a server answers, from a data centre near you, with five TCP handshakes to its web port.
Looking up…
A TCP ping, and why.
The classic ping sends ICMP echo packets. Cloudflare Workers cannot send ICMP, so Hivex opens a TCP connection to the server's web port (443, or 80 if 443 does not answer) and times the handshake, five times. A server that ignores ICMP still answers this, so it often works where ping does not.
Reading the numbers.
- Average: the typical time from Hivex's data centre to the server. Distance sets the floor: about 1 ms per 100 km of fibre, there and back.
- Jitter: how much the times move between tries. High jitter hurts calls and games more than a steady high time.
- Your own time from home adds the trip from you to that data centre and back.
Questions people ask.
What does this ping test measure?
The time a TCP handshake to the server's web port takes, five times, from Cloudflare's data centre near you. It shows how fast the server answers and how steady that is.
Why not a normal ICMP ping?
Hivex runs on Cloudflare Workers, which cannot send ICMP. Many servers ignore ICMP anyway, while a web server always answers a TCP handshake on its web port.
What is a good ping?
Under 50 ms feels instant, under 100 ms is fine for most uses, and over 150 ms starts to show in calls and games. Steady times (low jitter) matter as much as low ones.
Why can't it ping sites on Cloudflare?
Cloudflare does not let Workers connect to its own addresses. Sites behind Cloudflare answer from the data centre nearest the visitor.
Can it run a traceroute?
No. Traceroute needs ICMP or UDP packets with short lifetimes, which Workers cannot send. Your computer's tracert or traceroute command can.
Hivex index
Short names, still free to register.
Starting something new? Hivex keeps a live index of short, brandable .si names nobody has claimed yet, each checked with the registry.
From code, or an AI assistant.
Hivex's free JSON API and MCP server check domains, DNS and registration records from your own code or from AI assistants that speak MCP. No key needed.
