Internet speed test, in your browser.

Download, upload, latency and jitter, measured between your browser and the nearest Cloudflare data centre. No app to install.

Download–Mbps
Upload–Mbps
Latency–ms
Jitter–ms

About 10 to 20 seconds; on a fast line it uses up to about 55 MB of data.

What each number means.

  • Download and upload: how many megabits a second moved each way, from the largest block that finished.
  • Latency: the fastest round trip of five small requests, in milliseconds. It decides how quick pages and calls feel.
  • Jitter: how much those round trips differ from one to the next. Low jitter keeps calls and games smooth.

For a fair result.

  • Pause downloads, streams and backups on the same line.
  • Test once on a cable and once on Wi-Fi to see what the Wi-Fi costs.
  • Run it two or three times: a single result can catch a busy moment.

Questions people ask.

How does the speed test work?

Your browser sends six tiny requests to time the round trip (latency) and how much it varies (jitter), then downloads and uploads blocks of random data of growing size until one takes over two seconds. Speed is the data moved divided by the time it took.

Why is my result lower than my plan's speed?

Wi-Fi, other devices on the line, the browser and the distance to the data centre all take their share. For the line's own speed, test on a cable, with nothing else running.

What is a good latency?

As a rough guide, under 30 ms feels instant for browsing and calls, and fast-paced games like under 20 ms. Jitter, the variation between requests, should stay low, a few milliseconds, for clear calls.

How much data does it use?

Up to about 55 MB on a fast line: it stops a direction once a block takes over two seconds, so slower lines use less. Mind it on a metered mobile plan.

Is anything stored?

No. The data is random bytes, thrown away on arrival, and the result stays in your browser.
